BETH POTTER??S HOME NEWSLETTER 2017. PAST: Beth Potter??s Home began as a non-profit charitable organization in 2008, as an initiative of Elizabeth N. Kibwaa who grew up as an orphan, she wanted to reciprocate to her community who helped her when she was growing up after her parents passed away at her childhood age. This noble task started with 15 orphans whose parents had passed away as a result of the HIV/Aids disease, but now we have 20 children. We began to feed, clothe and educate these children while they are still living with their aged grandparents. Out of this figure mentioned above, it is with deep sorrow to report that four of our orphans have succumbed the disease and died. It is also sad to report that during that same period since we started this noble mission of caring for the orphans, four grandmothers who have been caring for these individual orphans have also died not with Aids but with other old age health issues. Leaving these individual orphans in the hands of relatives to care for them. It has not been easy for these relatives because they have their own families whom they are responsible for to meet their basic needs. Achievements: Since when we started feeding, educating and caring for these orphans health-wise in 2008, the following are the things which we have been able to successfully achieve: 1. We have already acquired and purchased a land of one acre on the outskirts of the city of Nairobi east, off Kangundo road a place called Kamulu. 2. It is our joy to report to you that a perimeter wall was build and completed in 2016 around the plot at a cost of Kenya shillings 3.5 million, which are equivalent to CD $ 35, 000. 3. We are happy to report to you that 7 of these children have completed grade 8 (std 8); 4 are in high school with one graduating the end of this year. While 2 who have graduated from high school and community college respectively are now helping their community in various activities. 4. It is with great to inform you that, the charity is officially registered both here in Canada and in Kenya as non-profit charitable organization. Therefore, those who would like to finance the charity, we want to report to you that we do issue receipts for any donation given of $20 and above for their annual income tax return process. 5. When we started filling the annual income tax returns forms with the Canada Revenue Agency, we are grateful to God to report that the charity has been commented for the good job, the organizers are doing as far as financial records are concerned. PRESENT: The children who are currently in Primary (Elementary) school are seven and out of the figure of 20 which I had mentioned at the beginning, only eight of them are sponsored. For you who have been touched by the stories of these children and seeing their pictures in our website Beth Potter??s Home.org and wants to generously give your donation to this noble task, or sponsor one of these children, we salute you and give God the glory for your support. We want to assure you that all donations which we receive from the donors goes one hundred percent to support those children. We are working hard to find ways and means of how to raise funds to build a home for these orphans. Any suggestions on how to raise funds for this project, will be highly appreciated. Please send us your ideas through these email, kliz@mymts.net or jkibwaa@mymts.net This is how we utilize the funds we receive either from individuals or groups as donations: 1. We feed the children both in their respective schools and homes of their residence. 2. We also finance their education, which includes their school uniform, books and stationaries three times per year, since the Kenyan system of education has three semesters or terms per year. 3. We medically take care those who are with the HIV disease. We also take care for general health issues, of these children. 4. Like other families, every year these orphans and their families where they live, receives Christmas packages to celebrate Christmas like other children in the community who do have parents with them, this is over and above the normal annual feeding they receive. Pray with us for God to touch people??s hearts to give these orphans Christmas this year because we do not have funds to support them with Christmas package. FUTURE: In order to have all these orphans in one place, their new home where they are fully attended, as opposed to where they are now living in different homes. This will require us to build a home which will enable us to make sure that their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are fully met satisfactorily. If it will be possible, we would like to have these children in their new home by mid next year 2018 God willing. It is also our desire and prayer to have a school for these children inside the facility in the near future, if funds will be available. In conclusion we want to acknowledge the individual board members who have been side by side with us and greatly contributed generously both their time and funds to see to it that this noble mission has been successfully carried out those years past. Prepared by Rev. Dr. Joseph K. Kibwaa (Co-founder)
